Free speech

Americans are afforded certain rights and freedoms… to speak their opinions. And it works both ways. I can speak and you can speak. And we do not have to agree with one another. That is freedom.

Some people want to speak and suppress others right to speak. That is NOT freedom of speech.  Free speech means the right to speak without censorship or limitations by the government. It does not mean that other citizens are not allowed to speak out against what you say. Nor does the GOP have the right to pass discriminatory laws against the poor and middle class, anti-gay legislation, anti-women bills, and hold the rest of us hostage.

Chick-Fil-A is an equal opportunity discriminator and American citizens have the RIGHT to NOT patronize their business.  Chick-a-fil-a can exercise their Freedom of Speech all they want and say whatever they want and can choose to spend millions of dollars on organizations who are against gay marriage and fire women so that they can stay at home and be moms, even if they cannot afford to do that. We, as consumers, have the same right to let them know that hateful speech and sexist policies will not be tolerated in this country. Our dollars Speak Louder than our words and are our voices. We are speaking loud and clear and they are calling our reaction to their beliefs hate and discrimination against Christians. Not true.

cheesy and downright bizarre…

What we are pointing out is the hypocrisy of calling hate and bigotry Family Values and pro-life when it is NOT. It is just the opposite. But people who believe like this tend to not like facts nor being told that others do not believe the same way they do. We do not condone bigotry nor sexism and have the audacity to say so.

A biblical principle they ignore.

Stay-at-home mothering is a biblical principle according to Chick-A-Fil-A. This one they like so they fired an employee so she could be a stay at home mom. She sued them.

“The complaint also alleges a pattern of demoting high-level female employees and placing male employees in those positions. This may prove especially troubling to jurors if it goes that far. The prospect of a long parade of female witnesses testifying about demotions in favor of male colleagues, should persuade the defendants to settle this case.”

Let this be a wake-up call for other companies.

“Boston’s mayor pledged to block the chicken sandwich stores from opening in Beantown, a Chicago alderman said he’ll try to stop a franchise from opening in his ward and the Jim Henson Co. cutoff its Chick-fil-A collaboration.”

Meanwhile companies like Amazon, JC Penney’s, Target, General Mills, Starbucks and others have come out in support of gay marriage.

Here is what bugs me about so-called Christians who blame God and the Bible for their homophobia. It ain’t God nor the Bible that fuels their discrimination.

Nowhere in the Bible does Jesus mention condemning homosexuals (nor abortion either).  People that say the Bible tells them that gay marriage is wrong are not reading the bible, just cherry picking certain verses to prove their agenda. They are also not following what Jesus told them to do.

“God told us to love everyone and not judge. By saying homosexuality is immoral, you are passing judgement. God teaches us to be good people, and follow the moral outline he alone sets for us. Our relationship with him is personal, and so is our morality. Meaning, one should never impose their morality on others. The scripture’s all there:

Matthew 7:1-2(1) Judge not, that you be judged, (2) For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged: and with what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you again.
Luke 6:35-38

(35) But love you your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and you shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind to the unthankful and to the evil. (36) Be you therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. (37) Judge not, and you shall not be judged: condemn not, and you shall not be condemned: forgive, and you shall be forgiven: (38) Give, and it shall be given to you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you mete with it shall be measured to you again.”

Besides…the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against things like this.
– Galatians 5:22-23 (CEB)

If a person is truly following Christ’s edicts, then they embody the fruits of the Spirit. If not, they are not true followers. But that is between God and each individual. It is NOT up to any person to say another person is going to hell. That does NOT mean we cannot express Outrage, Dismay or Criticize what another person does or says. It is a slippery slope.

But when you believe that another human being, a citizen of the US who pays taxes, (someone like astronaut Sally Ride, who hid the fact that she was gay until her death and now her long term lifetime partner cannot claim insurance benefits that heterosexual spouses can) should have less rights than you, because of YOUR beliefs, that is hateful. To compare the two (one expressing hatred and the other speaking out against hatred) is a false equivalency. If pro-gays are saying “anti-gay Christians” should not be married due to their lack of compassion, THAT would be hypocrisy but no one is saying that. Gay people deserve EQUAL RIGHTS as do women as do ALL people and I would include Animals in the equation, too… since innocent animals are abused routinely and do NOT deserve to be killed for how they look. That is a form of racism and discrimination that is particularly heinous to me. God Goddess ALL that Is made ALL the creatures on earth in their image… we are ALL deserving of Life and Goodness and to have certain inalienable rights.

The point is that there we are a diverse nation of people who believe in different religions in this country. And we as Americans have the right to believe in different religions, be it Christian, with all the different denominations, Judaism, Islam, New Age, our spirituality is our own business. We have the Freedom of Religion, too. This is NOT a Christian nation as some want us to believe. Never was and never supposed to be.

What I find interesting amongst the chorus of voices is a growing number of people calling themselves the Christian Left who are speaking out against the Christian right’s propaganda.  And then there are also the nuns who are speaking out about the Catholic Church. God loves ALL of us. Get over it. It is the 21st century now not the Dark Ages.

Don’t mess with the nuns…

Just thought i would post this about Chick-Fil-A .Next time someone tells you that bocoting them is wrong

You argue that Freedom of Speech is involved and it is! People have the right to say “don’t patronize that business because it advocates discrimination.”

You argue that Religious Freedom is involved and it is! It’s a suppression of Religious Freedom. Why? Because there are Christian churches that would perform same-sex marriages except that they are not legally allowed to under their state’s laws. They are being prohibited by the state that seems to favor one type of Christianity over another EVEN if the are the same sect.

In 2009 alone Chick-Fil-A (as a corporation) donated $2,000,000 to anti-gay marriage groups. In spite of the Citizens United case, corporations do not worship at churches. This was direct corporate sponsorships to religion based organizations to advocate for “legal inequality under the law” and suppression of Religious Freedom of a selected group of individuals.

This is also about the separation of Church and State. No one religion or “favored sect” has the legal standing or right to decide what secular laws are. The United States does not operate under Sharia Law. Nor will it operate under exclusively strict Jewish, nor Buddhist, nor Hindi, nor Christian laws.

Since this is a situation where folks are speaking out about protecting the civil rights of individuals, your point about this being a “Socialist path” is clearly mistaken. Further you are mistaken in the assumption that this is an effort to silence people. Rather, it’s an effort to hold corporations accountable for what they advocate.

Let me ask you this if Corporations are people too, should they not be treated just like one?. If i went on the news and said i was throwing my money and what power i have behind a group that hates and wants to keep rights away from other good Americans from having the SAME rights as others i would be hated and protested against. So all we are really doing is treating a Corporation just like we would a person. Remember what those on the right love to say ” Corporations are people too ” . They can’t have it both ways

Also, it’s NOT hate based politics when you argue for inclusion. Hate based is when you argue to exclude Nuff said and please pass this post on where ever you can

Count me baffled… did you even read what I wrote???

I said NOTHING about Socialism nor Sharia Law…

I am saying that Chick-a-fil-a is an equal opportunity discriminator and American citizens have the RIGHT to NOT patronize their business.
